In most cases, your maternity size will be the same as your pre-pregnancy size, but it all depends on the brand. Some retailers offer size charts that give suggestions based on your body measurements, which can be helpful as your belly grows. While not always possible, working with a personal stylist (Stitch Fix and Nordstrom offer this service free) can be the best way to determine your size and which clothing items will fit and flatter your body the best.
Known for its plus size selection, AOSO also has maternity options (currently up to size 20). With that said, many people like using their plus size clothes as maternity options by selecting flowy shirts and maxi dresses.

Old Navy is making a comeback with their inclusive sizing in-store, but their maternity still only goes up to XXL. And while that might be a great fit for some, we're hoping they make improvements here soon!
And it's no wonder, as they have a wonderful selection of maternity clothes! The only downside is that their sizing is limited to 3XL, and many of their items run small. But if you're a size 20 or below, you've found your maternity jackpot.
SHEIN is an affordable retailer that offers a wide selection of plus size maternity clothes up to size 3XL. With many options under $15, SHEIN is excellent for people on a tight budget who don't mind shopping online. Just be sure to read the reviews before purchasing.

Target's selection of maternity clothes isn't very size-inclusive, maxing out at XXL in stores and online. However, they offer many plus size clothing options that work well for maternity up to 4XL online.
I know we all want cute maternity clothes, but suitable clothing is an investment. Also, maternity is a finite amount of time! So we're excited to share that Universal Standard is doing something unique.
Universal Standard worked with Danielle Brooks from Orange Is The New Black to curate a collection of plus size pregnancy clothes that go from pregnancy to postpartum and beyond! Best of all, not only are you getting great quality clothes, but the sizing goes up to 40.
Are you searching for affordable plus size maternity clothes? Oh! Mamma from Walmart is an excellent resource. Unbelievably you can pick up a pair of plus size maternity jeans for under $17 and a plus size maternity top for under $10 (up to size 3XL).

Torrid is one of the few mainstream plus size brands that offer anything maternity-related. Their leggings and nursing bras were lifesavers for me during pregnancy and I love that they have basic tees and tanks as well. I highly recommend grabbing some leggings and tees and finding cute non-maternity options to complete the look. Sweaters, vests, etc. can really elevate the basic leggings and tees.
Unfortunately, Universal Standard has discontinued their maternity collection called Fit Liberty Mom. The pieces were incredible, and I highly recommend searching Poshmark or Ebay for them if interested.
Many of their non-maternity styles of loungewear, tops, sweaters, tees, tanks, and leggings, will work super well during pregnancy if you size up. Then once you deliver, if you need the smaller size, you can utilize the Fit Liberty program to exchange them.
While Motherhood Maternity technically only offers up to a 3X, I found their sizing to be very generous. I wore a solid 4X pre-pregnancy and many of their 3X options worked perfectly for me. The key is to look for stretchy options or ones with an oversized look.
Torrid offers their famous premium leggings in a maternity style which are very popular; however, some folks (including me) prefer to wear their regular non-maternity style leggings during pregnancy (sizing up if needed).
Pro tip: one thing I did during maternity was buy pull-on, super stretchy jeggings in 2-3 sizes up to wear under longer tops. Not a perfect solution but one that worked for me when I was desperate for that denim look!
I do highly recommend grabbing some maternity tank tops and tees to wear under cardigans, jackets, blazers, etc. as the way they fit accentuates the baby bump nicely. It can also be hard to get non-maternity tees and tanks that are long enough to cover the belly at the end of pregnancy.
Plus size maternity coats are again just not something I would recommend spending your money on. I recommend finding styles that are forgiving in the stomach area like these or sizing up in non-maternity styles.
This coat is a perfect pregnancy option due to the forgiving cut, large size range, and buttons that stop high on the body. This is an incredibly stylish option, available in black and brown, that you can wear well after your pregnancy is over. It would also hold great resale value if you chose to sell it on a platform like Poshmark later on.
This is a great list. As a plus size pregnant woman, it can be a struggle to find clothing that is cute and fits and accentuates your bump. I was previously pregnant 4yrs ago, and there are a lot more options now compared to back then. For my pregnancies I wore items from Target, Motherhood Maternity and Old Navy. I also got one of the Fit Liberty Mom kits from Universal Standard when it first launched, and the items I received were by far my favorite items to wear.

You can put them on top of too-loose maternity jeans to help you get more life out of them. And you can even wear them after your baby is born to help as you transition from maternity jeans back to your pre-pregnancy ones.
If you have similar-sized friends who already have children, ask them if they would loan you some of their maternity items. You can then add what you bought to the pile and swap back to them if they get pregnant again!
