Spectral-ripple discrimination is correlated with speech perception in noise. The figure shows the relationship between the spectral-ripple thresholds and SRTs in two-talker babble (left panel) and steady-state noise (right panel) using data from the first six repetitions. Linear regressions are represented by the dotted lines.

Spectral-ripple discrimination correlates well with speech perception in noise after more experience with the speech perception task. The figure shows the relationship between the spectral-ripple thresholds using data from the first six repetitions and SRTs in two-talker babble (left panel) and steady-state noise (right panel) using data from the second six repetitions. Linear regressions are represented by the dotted lines.

The goal of the project is to gather high-quality lidar data for the whole state. Roughly 25 to 35% of the state has been flown, but the landscape changes over time, as does technology. Just as importantly, much of the state only has poor-quality lidar coverage that is of limited use to those relying on the information. These lidar collection flights were either scheduled during seasons where leaves are still on deciduous trees or with lower point-density specifications. Many areas that have already been collected will be scanned again at better resolution in order to be of use in landslide hazard assessments.

In addition to this one case study, economists find general evidence of these kinds of ripple effects from raising the U.S. minimum wage. The best estimates, though, appear in research conducted by economists David Autor of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Alan Manning of the London School of Economics, and Christopher Smith of the Federal Reserve Board. They study all state and federal minimum wage increases from 1979 through 2012, and measure the effect of the raises at each point of the wage distribution.

For years, thousands of detainees awaiting their trials in immigration court were paid $1 a day to mop, scrub toilets, do laundry, and myriad other jobs at the Washington state facility where they were being held. During that time, GEO Group, the company contracted with the government to run the facility, Northwest ICE Processing Center, was posting millions of dollars in profits. 041b061a72
